Three Casner & Edwards Attorneys to Present at the 2018 Providers’ Council Convention & Expo


Casner & Edwards attorneys Scott Harshbarger, Anita S. Lichtblau, and Sharon C. Lincoln will present “Staying on Top of the Latest Nonprofit Financial and Legal Hot Topics” at the Providers’ Council’s 43rd Annual Convention: RISE! on September 20, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The presentation will cover updates in key areas of law, including: the impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on nonprofits; new equal pay and pregnancy discrimination acts; a new nonprofit financial reporting model, leasing standards and revenue recognition standards; and the nonprofit board’s role during asexual harassment investigation.

Harshbarger is Senior Counsel in Casner & Edwards’ Litigation and Nonprofit departments. He specializes in providing strategic counsel for corporate investigations and defense, business ethics, compliance and risk management, corporate and governance, and government regulation. His distinguished career includes positions in major public office, nonprofit executive management, private legal counsel and numerous board directorships.

Lichtblau is a member of Casner & Edwards’ Nonprofit Practice Group where she advises nonprofit organizations on wide variety of legal issues, including formation of organizations and application for tax-exempt status, maintenance of tax-exempt status, governance, lobbying and political activity, creation of corporate policies, employment matters, and government and private grants and contracts. Lichtblau is co-chair of the Tax-Exempt Organization Section of the Boston Bar Association (BBA) and a member of the Section’s Steering Committee and Chapter 180 Working Group.

Lincoln is a member of Casner & Edwards’ Nonprofit Practice Group where she advises nonprofit entities on the wide range of issues related to their tax-exempt status, including formation, funding, governance, regulatory compliance, restructuring, international grant making, lobbying, unrelated business income, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, she assists clients in matters directly involving the Internal Revenue Service, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, including audits, appeals and ruling requests. Lincoln is co-chair of the Policy Committee of the Tax-Exempt Organization Section of the BBA and a member of the Section’s Chapter 180 Working Group and Steering Committee.
