Casner & Edwards attorney, Sharon C. Lincoln, will speak at the Massachusetts Land Conservation Conference, March 24, 2018 at Worcester Technical High School, Worcester, MA. Organized by the Massachusetts Land Trust Coalition, Inc., this annual event gathers land trust board members and staff, parks administrators, federal, state and local government agencies, students, and philanthropists for workshops and discussions focused on fostering healthy communities through land conservation.
Ms. Lincoln will serve on the panel, “Today's Legal Issues and Solutions,” which will address cases, issues and best legal practices involving land conservation and operations of land trusts and conservation professionals. She and fellow panelists will highlight recent court, agency and policy changes, including Art. 97, terminations and amendments, charitable trusts, IRS policies, enforcement and organizational changes, such as mergers.
As a Partner in Casner & Edwards’ Nonprofit Organizations Group, Ms. Lincoln advises nonprofit entities on the wide range of issues related to their tax-exempt status, including formation, funding, governance, executive compensation (including deferred compensation), regulatory compliance, restructuring, international grant making, lobbying, unrelated business income, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, she assists clients in matters directly involving the Internal Revenue Service, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, including audits, appeals and ruling requests.
