Casner & Edwards’ attorneys, Julie R. Bryan, Michael J. Fencer, Nicole M. Jorge, Joanne E. Romanow and Viktor A. Theiss participated in the Boston Debate League’s first annual Corporate Debate Tournament, November 13th in Boston. The event gathered members of the legal and business community for a good-natured competition to raise funds for Boston Debate League’s programs, which helps over 6,000 Boston youth strengthen their critical thinking, communication and leadership skills. Casner & Edwards was also an event sponsor.
The Casner team, along with competitors from other law firms and corporations in the Greater Boston area, put their skills to the test as they engaged in a friendly debate on current events. Participating teams debated the following question: “What is most necessary for truth to emerge in the United States today?” Each team was assigned a position to advocate over two debate rounds. Winners were determined by the tournament’s judges, U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV and U.S. Magistrate Judge M. Page Kelley, who engaged the audience to help make decisions.

Teams compete in six regional BDL tournaments per year, debating about a real-world policy issues, using college-level texts as evidence. The EBA initiative partners with entire schools to help teachers of all subjects educate and inspire students through student-led, and evidence-based learning communities.
