Casner & Edwards Hosts Second Annual New England Regional Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition, Sponsored by the American College of Bankruptcy and American Bankruptcy Institute

On February 25th, 2017, Casner & Edwards LLP will host the second annual New England regional bankruptcy moot court competition, which will serve as a practice round for the 2017 Duberstein Moot Court Competition being held in New York City in March. Lynne F. Riley, a partner in Casner’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Group practice, organized the event which is co-sponsored by the First Circuit Fellows of the American College of Bankruptcy and the American Bankruptcy Institute. (Casner attorney Michael J. Goldberg serves as Chair of the Education Committee of the American College of Bankruptcy’s First Circuit).

This competition brings together four teams of bankruptcy law students (two from the University of Maine School of Law and one each from Suffolk University Law School and Quinnipiac University School of Law). The competition will start at 1:00 p.m., with an award presentation and reception to follow. Judges for the regional competition include Judge Michael Deasy of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire, James Wilton of Ropes & Gray LLP, and Chad Dale of K&L Gates LLP.

ABI’s Annual Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition is widely recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent moot court competitions. The competition promotes and recognizes the finest oral and written advocacy on significant issues in bankruptcy practice. Approximately 60 law school teams participate, making this the largest single site appellate moot court competition. The competition culminates in a gala awards dinner at the banquet at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel in Manhattan. The dinner draws more than 1,000 attendees, including many leading bankruptcy judges and practitioners.
