Casner & Edwards LLP partners Scott Harshbarger, Anita S. Lichtblau and Sharon C. Lincoln will speak at the virtual Providers' Council's 46th Annual Convention & Expo, October 19, 2021. Their workshop, “Legal and Financial Update and Best Practices,” will cover key areas including:
- employees working remotely;
- remote board and members’ meetings;
- guidelines for being prepared for an IRS audit;
- accounting and financial auditing update;
- lessons learned working through the pandemic; and
- responding to subpoenas and requests for client records.
Harshbarger provides strategic counsel for business ethics, corporate investigations and defense, compliance and risk management, corporate and governance, and government regulation. He has had a long and successful public service career as a public defender, civil rights attorney, Middlesex District Attorney and recognized as a national leader during his term as Massachusetts Attorney General. Harshbarger regularly speaks to state and national business groups, industry and legal associations and college audiences and often appears in the national media and on New England television as a commentator and news analyst.
Lichtblau advises nonprofit organizations on a wide variety of legal issues, including formation of organizations and application for tax-exempt status, maintenance of tax-exempt status, governance, lobbying and political activity, creation of corporate policies, employment matters, and government and private grants and contracts. Lichtblau is co-chair of the Education Committee of the Tax-Exempt Organization Section of the BBA and a member of the Section’s Chapter 180 Working Group. She is also a member of the BBA Tax-Exempt Organization Steering Committee.
Lincoln advises nonprofit entities on the wide range of issues related to their tax-exempt status, including formation, funding, governance (including conflicts of interest), executive compensation, regulatory compliance, corporate restructuring and affiliations, international grant making, lobbying, unrelated business income, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, she assists clients in matters directly involving the Internal Revenue Service, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, including audits, appeals and ruling requests. Lincoln is co-chair of the Communications Committee of the Tax-Exempt Organization Section of the BBA and a member of the Section’s Chapter 180 Working Group. She is also a member of the BBA Tax-Exempt Organization Steering Committee and the ABA Tax Section.
