Casner & Edwards LLP Attorneys Renee Inomata and Stéphanie Smith spoke at The Bulfinch Group’s Sprint Webinar Series, “Return to the Physical Workplace - Key Legal Considerations,” on May 12, 2020. Inomata and Smith discussed the legal ramifications employers should consider when implementing re-entry protocols. They spoke on the following:
- How to best maintain a reasonably safe workplace, including monitoring physical symptoms of COVID-19 among workers while balancing privacy rights
- How to address workers who are reluctant to or unable to return to the workplace
- How current protocols may impact areas of future liability
Inomata helps companies and executives navigate complex employment laws so they can successfully achieve their employment goals and mitigate risks associated with employment issues. She advises clients on a wide range of high-level, complex employment-related matters, and solves sensitive employment situations with an understanding of the client’s culture, risk adversity and business goals. Clients often rely on her as their outside employment counsel to address a variety of day-to-day workplace issues, including disciplinary, discrimination, leave, and wage and hour issues. Renee also helps companies formulate best strategies for transitioning employees from competitor entities, minimizing risk in re-classifying workers, rolling out updated restrictive covenant agreements, revising and implementing bonus and commission plans.
Smith’s practice focuses on all aspects of employment law, including hiring and firing, performance management and disciplinary action, reductions in force, leaves of absence and other workplace accommodations, protection of intellectual property, and compliance with federal and state employment laws, including wage and hour laws, background checks, and leave laws. She advises clients on recent employment law developments, including compliance under the Massachusetts equal pay law and state marijuana laws.
