Casner & Edwards LLP Attorney Steven E. Maalouf spoke at Suffolk University Law School’s (SULS) virtual seminar for Family Advocacy Clinic (FAC) students on April 16, 2020. The panel of law school alumni attorneys provided SULS students with insight into the practice of family law. Maalouf discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected his practice, how students can stay motivated to study for their postponed bar exams, and how his past work in the FAC affected his current practice.
Maalouf represents clients in all aspects of Family Law, which has been his focus since his legal career began. Steven has experience in all aspects of domestic relations, including divorce, guardianships, child support, alimony, custody, modification actions, paternity, restraining orders, domestic violence, parental alienation and other matters. He also assists clients with issues relating to the Department of Children and Families. Previously, Steven served as a law clerk, working for the judges at the Norfolk Probate and Family Court. He also clerked at two family law firms where he honed his skills. Steven’s practice also focuses on pro bono work and he serves as the firm’s liaison to the Greater Boston Legal Services and the Victim Rights Law Center.
The Family Advocacy Clinic is a yearly clinic that holds weekly seminars covering the development of lawyering skills such as interviewing, counseling, case theory development, negotiation, oral advocacy and the application of ethical rules to practice in the complex arena of families in crisis. One of the main goals of the FAC is for student attorneys to learn and develop insight into the process of lawyering, using family and poverty law as the paradigm for this learning.
