Casner & Edwards Attorney Edward V. Colbert III to Be Honored by the BBA as a Contributor to the BBA's Amicus Briefs

Boston law firm Casner & Edwards, LLP announces that attorney Edward V. Colbert III was recognized by the Boston Bar Association (BBA) for his outstanding service as a contributor to the BBA’s amicus briefs, and particularly for his work in drafting Suffolk Construction Co. v. Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM).  Colbert was honored at the BBA’s Annual Meeting Luncheon, October 20th at the Westin Copley Place in Boston.

Since 1975, the BBA has filed amicus briefs on matters related to the practice of law or the administration of justice. In Suffolk Construction Co. v. Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM), the BBA supported DCAM’s position on the policy ground that documents of government agencies/employees should enjoy protection from disclosure under the public records law if the documents are subject to attorney-client privilege.

Colbert practices in the areas of Litigation and Special Investigations & Regulatory Compliance.  He has extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation, and his practice often involves representing companies in business disputes involving contractual, employment, intellectual property, real estate and professional liability disputes. He also represents officers, directors and shareholders of corporations in internal disputes concerning their fiduciary duties, as well as during governmental investigations and enforcement actions.

Prior to his time in private practice and before joining Casner & Edwards, Colbert was an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Since leaving that office, he has served as a Special Assistant Attorney General during the Big Dig Cost Recovery Process.  Colbert is often called upon to represent candidate and political committees, as well as ballot question committees, and has overseen several election recounts. He has also represented school systems, along with their employees, teachers and students in various school-related legal disputes. Colbert is currently serving on the Massachusetts Joint Bar Committee, which is responsible for reviewing the qualifications of judicial nominees in the Commonwealth. He has also served in the BBA as Chairman of the Litigation Section, Co-Chair of the Task Force on Confidential Settlement Agreements, and on the Long-Range Planning Committee.
