Summary judgment in claim against law firm

Robert Murphy and Andrew Higgins of the firm's litigation department recently obtained summary judgment for a large law firm client sued in federal court in Washington, D.C., for alleged legal malpractice. The plaintiff in the D.C. lawsuit had been a co-defendant in an earlier lawsuit filed by a different claimant in federal court in Massachusetts where Casner & Edwards also successfully obtained summary judgment for the same law firm. The plaintiff sought over $100 million in damages for the alleged failure to obtain a foreign patent for the plaintiff's invention for which the law firm had obtained U.S. patent protection.
